How prevalent is child abuse in the U.S.?
In the United States, over three million reports of child abuse are made every year. Almost 5 children die everyday from some form of child abuse and it is believed that 5 is a conservative number. occurs at all socioeconomic levels and throughout every race, education level and religious group. Children suffer from multiple types of abuse, with neglect being the most prevalent. Research has concluded that children three and under are the most risk, representing nearly 75 percent of child abuse related fatalities. Who is abusing and killing these children? The parents account for 76 percent of the fatalities, 15 percent are non-caretakers the child knows and nine percent are unknown persons.
